Is it Florida or is it Rhus Tox?

Here I sit in the Sunshine State, which is finally sunny after two very cloudy and windy days, and I realize that my scalp doesn’t hurt as much as it has in the past.

Hmmm…I took my first dose of Rhus tox (poison ivy) a week ago Monday and my second dose last night (sorry, Witchy Woman Mach II, I fell asleep Monday night before taking my second dose) and was way too busy getting ready to go away to pay any attention to how my head felt.  But after 5 days in Florida, I think it feels better.  But why?  Rhus tox?  Vacation?  Florida sun, I mean wind?

Guess I won’t know for sure until I get home.

It sort of makes sense in a weird, homeopathic kind of way that something that makes you itchy after full contact (poison ivy), could be used to deal with itch in a very low homeopathic dose.  After all, I take a copper derivative (copper can cause convulsions) to deal with my restless leg syndrome.

So, while I floss my ulna nerve, stretch and pull my toes, I will also hope that the Rhus tox really is the answer.

Witchy Woman Mach II by Liz Saunders

What’s another name for Witchy Woman?  I need a moniker for Witchy Woman Mach II.  Madam Woo?  Helga Hufflepuff?

I thought my previous naturopath came up with some interesting ideas…take Indigo at dusk or dawn when the sky is indigo…but WW Mach II has a whole new level of weird for me.

On Thanksgiving Monday she wanted me to drop a poison ivy pellet into a glass of water, stir, then stick the spoon into an identical glass of water with no poison ivy and stir, then stick the spoon into a third identical glass of water and stir, stick the spoon into a fourth identical glass of water and stir, then into a 5th identical glass of water, stir, then take a few sips.

Seriously?  If that isn’t bizarre I don’t know what is.

So, Thanksgiving Monday, when my family would be home…  I said, “well…maybe not.  They might lock me in a closet, never to be seen again.  It will have to wait until Tuesday when no one can watch me”.  Didn’t happen this a.m.  Tomorrow maybe?

In the meantime, I need a new nickname for my naturopath (Witchy Woman’s been used).  All suggestions gratefully appreciated….Hermione?

Wish me luck or magic!

Poison Ivy? Who’da thought?

Woke up Tuesday night/Wednesday morning back in July at 2:30 a.m. and thought oh no, here we go again.  Then I realized that I was awake because my back was killing me.  Tossed and turned for 2 hours and finally succumbed and took a Tylenol 3.

On Wednesday I had my last official appointment with Dr. Bryce and he stopped the filming mid scene and called to the front desk for some Rhus Tox.  Poison Ivy!  He wanted me to ingest poison ivy for the inflammation!  Go figure!  Well, sure enough after a couple of days, the pain in my back eased dramatically as the inflammation went down (the inflammation was proven by a urine test showing that my free radicals were nuts) and with only 1 more T3 tab.

But now to my last appointment.  I’ve been doing so well that Bryce took me off the Theanine, Fola Pro, Vinpo and Melatonin.  Yay!  I still have to do the “some pills on an empty stomach and some with food” but there were so many less pills.

So, Friday night (saw Bryce on Wednesday) everything was fine until Whammo…RLS episode.  But here’s the thing – I took a T3 for the drive to the cottage (back was still sore), an antihistamine when I got to the cottage – black flies attacked as I got out of the car, and then sin of sins, had wine with dinner.  Well guess what?  My body was screaming “lie down you stupid woman!”  As soon as I lay down and went to sleep, the twitchies stopped…go figure.

I think I had another minor event the following week, but it wasn’t memorable enough to remember it.

Then this Sunday happened.  This week, went to bed Sunday night and 3:30 a.m. Monday, there I was…awake.  Wide awake!  Well, I thought, what’s one night.  Not a big deal in the scheme of things.   Until 4:45 a.m. when I had a terrible episode of RLS.  Now that was after tossing and turning since 3:30.  I tried everything.  Breathing exercises, relaxation techniques…nothing worked.  But, it was one night.

Or so I thought.  Monday night I went to bed thinking, “well, tonight I’ll sleep after last night”.  And I did…until 3 a.m.  Then it was a repeat of the night before.  I guess one of the good things about being a virtual assistant is that at least, if I have to after a bad night, I can take the day easy.

Gotta talk to Dr. B.

Phase Homeopathic…

I spent Monday with Claudette, Ellie, Scott and Jeff (sorry Jeff if you’re a Geoff, I forgot to ask) filming with my GP, (Dr. Leigh Grant) and then driving (if you’re a nervous driver like me, having a camera in your face is NOT fun!), and then we went to see Dr. Bryce Wylde…and of course, more filming.

Dr. Bryce is, of course, a veteran of TV so he’s totally cool with the whole TV experience.  In fact, he’s even better than the rest of us because he’s a veternan of live TV (if you don’t know, he now has his own show on Thursday’s at 5 pm on CP24),  rather than the re-take, re-take of not-live TV (so we had a giggle during filming).

However, on to the important stuff.  Dr. Bryce didn’t have all the test results when we started (as we’d hoped) but they came through during the filming, which was kind of cool on it’s own.  However, those results were scary.   So many result right in the middle of the “normal range” and so many WAY outside the normal range.  Dr.  Bryce was very pleased with the results…I think they backed up what he already thought…so they solidified what he wanted me to do next.

The next step is another supplment called L-Tyrosine, as well as a homeopathic substance called Cuprum Metallica 1M (Boiron).  If that doesnt work, the next trial is a derivative of ….wait for it…poison ivy!  Having accidentally sat down in poison ivy as a child (thankfully with no affect), I have some trepidation about a poison ivy derivative…but if that what it takes…I’m in!

So, we go on from here.  Oh, and for the record, the gastro-intestinal side effects are now under control.  But sleep is still problematic.  Last night wasn’t too bad…I think I woke up at 4:30, but I did go back to sleep.    And there were no twitchies Monday night.   Since then it’s been better…not so twitchy and somewhat better sleep…not all the way through the night, but better.

So, we’ll see if the Cuprum and the Tyrosine work.  I’ll keep you posted.
